Thursday Theory #1: Rey Palpatine

Before I go into this theory in full depth, I'm going to announce something new that the Coruscant Post will be doing from now on. Every other Thursday we will be going full in depth to an interesting theory that's been on the internet. We might do our own theories from time to time, but we'll be doing already created ones for now. Also, you might see things like the Monday Monster or something else for a particular day, but until we fully announce them as a running thing they will not always show up on the allotted dates.

So now that we've announced the Thursday Theory, let's get right down to the theory. This date's theory will be a very interesting theory that claims that Rey is actually a granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine. We will divide this article up into sections, each section has a different part to support the claim. So without further ado, let's get right into this.

This first section will talk about Rey's fighting style. In the Force Awakens, the very first move Rey uses when fighting against Kylo Ren is a forward thrusting stab which is the same first move that Chancellor Palpatine uses when he is confronted by the Jedi in Revenge of the Sith. Before Rey used this move, Palpatine was the only force user to use that type of move. Once Rey preformed the stab, Palpatine and Rey are now the only force users to do it. Also both Rey and Palpatine used a overhead strike (Seen Below). This is a huge claim for the theory to be true.

For the next section we're going to talk about the Force Awakens novel that was released with the movie. In the novel when Rey strikes Kylo down, the novel states, "Kill him, a voice inside her head said. It was amorphous, unidentifiable, raw. Pure vengeful emotion. So easy, she told herself. So quick. If this voice was Snoke, it wouldn't be described as amorphous or unidentifiable. Instead this voice would be Emporer Palpatine. We all know Palpatine's "Good Anakin good. Kill him. Kill him now."

Next we would need to sell the idea that Rey isn't a Skywalker. If you've seen our earlier post on "Why Rey isn't a Kenobi", you'd see the evidence almost confirming that she's a Skywalker, but isn't Disney selling it a little too much? Here's some more information that almost proves she's not a Skywalker. We've been told that Luke's first words in "The Last Jedi" are "Who are you?". This would show that Luke wouldn't recognize his own daughter. His words are "Who are you?" not "Oh my god! Rey you're alive!". Next, J.J. Abrams said that "Rey's parents are NOT in the Force Awakens". That means that Rey can't be a daughter of Luke beacuse Luke is in the Force Awakens, and she can't be a daughter of Leia because she's also in the Force Awakens and we even get some dialogue with them. If you still aren't sold, in the novel Bloodline released shortly after the Force Awakens, it confirms that Leia had constant contact with Luke even when he was training force-sensitive children, and she would've known if her own brother had been married and had children. Neither are mentioned in the novel. Finally, a person tweeted Pablo Hidalgo, "Looking at the Bloodline stuff, is it safe to say that Rey is NOT Luke's daughter." Pablo Hidalgo responded, "I think that once the book is out for everyone to read, more people should weigh in on this idea." This is the closest thing you can get to a conformation at LucasFilm because of legal reasons. This is you make it out to be, is stating that Luke is not Rey's father.

Adding on, both Daisy Ridley (Rey) and John Boyega (Finn) have English accents in real life. However for production, Daisy Ridley kept her English accent while John Boyega's was switched to American. If you don't recall, Palpatine has an English accent.

Next, twice during Rey's force vision we can hear Palpatine's voice in the background. During the start of the tunnel collapse, you can hear Palpatine's force scream from the Revenge of the Sith. Later you can hear Palpatine's line from Revenge of the Sith, "a power to be much greater than any Jedi." "Any Jedi" is also heard when Rey is confronted by the Knghts of Ren and she walks backward. This part is very hard to hear, and you can hear it if you watch the theory YouTube video (Below).

Finally, in the last scenes of the Force Awakens, when Luke turns around and sees Rey, a reaction you might not expect from Luke is stated in the novel. The novel says, "A kindness in his eyes, but there's something tortured too." This would show that Luke is not looking into the eyes of a Skywalker, but into the eyes of a descendant of his long nemesis, Emporer Palpatine.

We hope you enjoyed this theory, and it's if you don't go along with it. After all it's just a theory. If you like the idea of the Thursday Theory, make sure to leave a comment below.
